The Costumes
“The Director approached me with a vision of a militant, dark, and brooding world that Hamlet must traverse as he navigates cycles of betrayal and revenge.
We anchored our design vision in the fashions of the Elizabethan era but opted to streamline the silhouettes for more modern appeal. The goal was to build our own world, not be historically accurate. Some core design tenants were: Deep & Dark Tones, Monochrome Pattern/Texture, Structured Garments, Strong Shoulders, High Necklines, Snatched Waists, and Layered Outfits.
This was our rule set. We then strategically followed, bent, or broke these rules when designing each character to reflect their station, personality, & relationship with the rest of the cast.”

The Composition
“I wanted to lean into the idea that we have an unreliable narrator- that we see this crumbling world through the eyes of Hamlet, and we cannot know how much of it is real and how much of it is imagined. You walk into a set filled with his written thoughts, a look into his brain. There is one white curtain hung delicately for every character. Throughout the play their curtains fall, coinciding with their deaths. They are the cause of their own quietus.
We toe the line between medieval and modern- a society and world that could exist anywhere, anytime. When society unravels, so too does the individual, and you might leave us wondering what part we- the silent onlookers-play in our characters' downfall.”

The Score
“My inspiration for this score lay heavy with the dread of the recent passing of one of my family members. I was able to translate the perfect atmosphere of sadness, a sense of looming doom and the beauty of mourning. Perfect for the many themes of Hamlet.”
